My Little Starfishes

A young man walked along a beach where thousands of starfish have washed ashore. Further along he saw an old man, walking slowly and picking up starfish one by one and tossing it gently into the ocean. “Why are you doing that?,” he asks. “Because the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in they will die.” “But, you can’t possibly save even save 1/10 of them.” The old man listened and then picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”
